How we suffer for beauty...

Just got back from having my brows and lip done at the threading place nearby. Now don't get me wrong, as grooming goes, in my humble opinion, threading beats out waxing by a mile - the finish is so much cleaner, more defined - but sweet bird of youth, why does it have to sting like that?

I know some, like my darling hubby, would say, "Why do you have to DO things like that? Why would you pay to have someone yank the hair out by the root from your face like that?" And time and again, I respond, "Because I choose not to look like a cavewoman." I'm from frickin' French stock, for crying out loud - I know what happens when I let things go.

Pour hot wax on the most tender areas of our bodies? Sure, bring it on! (Just not the face, please - it's a threading-only zone.) Take a razor blade and attack our extremities every three days? Have you seen the weather outside? Of course, it's time for skirts and strappy sandals!

I'm not complaining - but man, it does take some intestinal fortitude to be a gal these days.

I'm just glad that I didn't get the dark italian leg hair that was a possibility in my genetics...

Ok ya got me! What's threading? I don't have the courage to do anything but use tweezers on my face so I'm kinda out of it!

You can go three days between shaves?? I swear my legs get 5 o'clock shadow.

Threading is another way of hair removal, where the beautician pulls the hair out using twists of cotton thread.

I go three days without shaving - I never said I can go three days without shaving... just wear long, light pants on those days...

Whenever I get my hair cut the hairdresser always says 'you have so much hair!' which she means as a good thing, but I'm thinking I might trade less hair on my head for less hair everywhere else.

How true it is, Lauren!

One of the best things about being a woman? Having these conversations, which no man alive would ever dream of having...

Ian encourages me to get my nails done now and again, can't complain about that!

I love the pampering process of a manicure and pedicure, but my manicures rarely last out the day - two at the most - and then I'm angry because I have ugly nails and am $10 lighter. The pedicures last for a while, though.

Mike gave me a gift certificate to a spa for Mother's Day, have to schedule that.
